For those interested in sightseeing Mt. Fuji🗻
Introduction
I'm Masa, born and raised in Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Here are my recommendations for Mt. Fuji sightseeing, aimed at inbound visitors.
Notice
I actually changed jobs this month, of course, also an SRE engineer at my new job. For those of you who know it for the first time here, I'd like to mention that.
Return to the topic; Then my nickname at my new company is Mt.Fuji, hahaha, because I introduced myself as living in Shizuoka. And I was actually asked about tourist information on Mt. Fuji, I explained it to them, so I'll include it in my blog as well.
Best towns for Mt.Fuji sightseeing
I recommend going to Gotemba City. If you have access to a car, I would also recommend Shizuoka City.
These two cities are easily accessible from Tokyo, have good sightseeing places, and have nice hotels, and also Mt. Fuji is basically always visible.
The attractions of each city are described below.
1. Gotemba city
Why is it the best?
- Basically an area with a constant view of Mt. Fuji during sightseeing.
- Tremendously simple, convenient, fun, and easy way to travel.
- With two well-known leisure facilities and easy access from Tokyo(don’t need a car), you can enjoy sightseeing and lodging all in one place.
- The section introduces the well-known leisure facility called
Gotemba Premium Outlets
andGotemba Kogen Resort Tokinosumika
.

Gotemba Premium Outlets
Gotemba Premium Outlets is the largest outlet mall in Japan.
- You can enjoy not only shopping, but also hot springs, gourmet food, an amusement park, and beautiful scenery!
- Furthermore, helicopter cruising is now available!
- Access is best that nothing more exists.
- There is a hotel on site.
Tips:
Gotemba Premium Outlets is extremely crowded (college students on spring break, inbound tourists), and since it is an outlet, you basically walk without resting. So, it is quite tiring, but not as hard as Disneyland👌
- You can enjoy not only shopping, but also hot springs, gourmet food, an amusement park, and beautiful scenery!
Tokinosumika
Tokinosumika is a resort facility. You can enjoy lodging, hot springs, restaurants, sports, and leisure activities.
The English version of the site is really not good😇😇😇, but it is as good as Gotemba Premium Outlet. Please take a look at the Japanese version of the site with Google Translate!
- Onsen, Gourmet, Shopping, Playing, Event, etc. are available.
- It is famous for its illumination and fountain show, and it looks like it will be open until March 12, 2023!
- then Good Sakura season will be coming soon! (In Japan, April is the best time to see cherry blossoms.)
- It is famous for its illumination and fountain show, and it looks like it will be open until March 12, 2023!
- Access is not bad. (also please see the JPN site)
- Tokyo - Mishima via Shinkansen(KODAMA) (takes 52min)
- Mishima - Tokinosumika via Free shuttle bus (takes 40min)
- There is a hotel on site.
- 5 hotels on site! (Below is one of them, Slow House Villas); JPN site
Tips:
As talked earlier, Gotemba Premium Outlet is very crowded, so if you want to relax around Mt. Fuji, I recommend taking a leisurely stroll at Tokinosumika, having a BBQ, taking a walk, and so on...!
Also, there is also a paid shuttle bus from Gotemba Premium Outlet to Tokinosumika(※Please be careful that Hakone-Yumoto Station
is a little far away, not in Shizuoka Prefecture, and will not appear in this article🚨🚨🚨)

2. Shizuoka City
Why is it the best?
- Basically an area with a constant view of Mt. Fuji during sightseeing.
- Shinkansen(HIKARI and KODAMA) stops!
- Tokyo - Shizuoka via HIKARI.
- It takes about 1 hour.
- Tokyo - Shizuoka via HIKARI.
- It is an ordinance-designated city and a prosperous city in Shizuoka Prefecture with a lot of tourist information!
- e.g. My recommended tourist spot is Dream Plaza!
- Good Access
- Shizuoka - Shimizu via local train (takes 10 minutes)
- Shimizu - Dream Plaza via free shuttle bus (takes 5 minutes)
- Complex facilities so I assume that you will never get bored.
- Good Access
- e.g. My recommended tourist spot is Dream Plaza!
Tips:
- ❗️ Whichever tourist facility you choose to visit, it is convenient to have a car.
- It is possible to get there by train or taxi but takes time and effort.
- ⚠️ Unlike Gotemba City, Shizuoka City does not have complex leisures that involved Hotels!
- Below I introduce good hotels within Shizuoka city.
Good Hotels
Here are some of the most popular hotels in Shizuoka Town.
- HOTEL NIHONDAIRA
- The most prestigious hotel in the area, where you can relax!
- Accessibility is also somewhat good!
- It is in the mountains and far from the station, but you can get a free shuttle at Shizuoka station and so on!
- There is a ropeway and a famous shrine in the mountains, so you will not be bored in the mountains so easily.
-
- Within 3 minutes walk from the hotel, Miho no Matsubara can be accessed, offering a view of Mt.Fuji.
- Miho no Matsubara is a famous place that was recognized by Guinness World Records a few years ago. (maybe you might know the below pic)
- Accessibility is not good;(
- There is an out-of-town area, but it is well-served by transportation.
- However, there are no tourist spots within walking distance😱, so I think If you want to spend a relaxing time at the hotel or just keep seeing Mt.fuji, it might be a good idea.

Misc
- Fuji is possible to drive up to the halfway point (~2300 meters), but I heard it is dangerous in March because of the snowfall. Even I, a local, hesitate to go there, and unless you are familiar with the area, it is not recommended.
- In addition to Shizuoka Prefecture, there is also the option of Yamanashi Prefecture (Mt. Fuji is located between Shizuoka and Yamanashi).
- But there is no Shinkansen line, so access is basically bad.
- But I've also been to Yamanashi a few times, so if you want to know Yamanashi, I will introduce you there! please ask me!
